The Transportation Worker Identification Credential
The Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) stands as a critical requirement under the Maritime Transportation Security Act, ensuring secure access for individuals within the nation maritime facilities and vessels. To obtain this credential, the TSA conducts a comprehensive security threat assessment, determining eligibility before issuance.
Who Needs a TWIC?
Primarily, individuals requiring access to secure zones within maritime facilities and vessels necessitate a TWIC®. This includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, naturalized citizens, nonimmigrant aliens, asylees, or refugees in lawful status. Additionally, most U.S. Coast Guard-licensed mariners are mandated to possess this credential.
